Summer Cohort
Setup Your Substack This Summer
Stop Learning About Substack. Start Building Yours.
You’ve been reading the articles and maybe watching some tutorials. Perhaps you’ve even started your Substack.
But somehow, all the pieces still aren’t in place, and you’re getting frustrated with not finding what you need, when you need it.
The About page, tags and sections, welcome emails, and new features that Substack keeps sending notifications about keep stacking up and every time you log in, it feels like there are ten different things you should be working on.
If that sounds familiar, this cohort is for you.
This is a small-group implementation cohort designed to help you stop spinning your wheels and start building your Substack, one piece at a time.
This isn’t a course, or a webinar. I won’t be teaching you about Substack. I’m not going to lecture you for an hour a week for six weeks. All the information is available and will be referenced, but what makes this cohort different from what I usually do is that we will be working together on your Substack. Getting each piece in place.
Six weeks of guided implementation, not information.

Who This Is For
This cohort is a good fit if you:
Have started a Substack (or created an account) but haven’t fully put it together yet
Feel overwhelmed by the platform and aren’t sure what matters most
Have been consuming information about Substack but haven’t implemented much of it
Want guidance, accountability, and the chance to ask questions as you go
Learn best by doing
Who This Is Not For
This is probably not the right fit if you:
Already have a well-established Substack that is actively growing
Are looking for advanced monetization or growth strategies
Prefer self-paced learning without live participation
Want someone else to build your Substack for you
Need extensive help planning a large, complex publication with multiple sections, custom pages, or advanced site architecture. Those projects typically require custom strategy and implementation support beyond the scope of this cohort.
Don’t want a Substack Publication, only a profile.
What We’ll Build Together
Each week we’ll focus on a specific piece of your Substack.
I’ll demonstrate what we’re working on, explain why it matters, and then you’ll have time to work on it yourself while I’m there to answer questions and troubleshoot problems.
By the end of the cohort, you’ll have a structured Substack that is ready to support your writing.
Week 1: Profiles vs Publications: We’ll make sure you understand the difference between your profile and your publication and help you put the core pieces in place.

Publication title, short descriptions and categories

Week 2: Who Are You on Substack? We’ll work on the public-facing pieces that help readers understand who you are and what you write about.

Week 3: Structure We’ll organize your publication so readers can navigate it easily. Covering things like paid and free navigation, tags & sections, your Nav bar and your homepage structure.
Break Week: You’ll have a week off at the beginning of August to catch up, finish homework, and begin drafting your Hero Post.
Week 4: Your Hero Post: We’ll create the post that introduces readers to your publication and helps them understand where to begin.
Hero Post structure
Drafting - understanding the Substack editor
Publishing - the settings and publish pages, and mistakes to avoid
Sharing your post
Week 5: Welcome Emails & Planning: We’ll create the emails new subscribers receive when they join your publication.
Free subscriber welcome email
Paid subscriber welcome email (if applicable)
Linking readers to your Hero Post and key resources
Discussion around posting cadence and planning for the next 3-6 months of your Substack
Week 6: Notes & Networking: We’ll discuss how to use Notes to connect with other writers and help new readers discover your publication.
Notes basics
Networking
Community building
Growing visibility
One of the things participants enjoyed most in my Spring cohort was connecting with other people who were building Substacks at the same stage.
You’ll be part of a small group of writers, creators, coaches, and business owners who are all working through the same process together.
Many participants continue supporting each other long after the cohort ends.
What You’ll Leave With
By the end of the cohort, you’ll have:
A completed profile
A clear publication title and description
An About page
Basic graphics in place
A structured publication
A Hero Post
Welcome emails
A foundation for using Notes
Greater confidence navigating Substack
Most importantly, you’ll know what to do next.
What Participants Have Said
“Adrienne’s class was a lifesaver, taking me from frustrated to published in three lessons. She was pleasant, knowledgeable, and patient, guiding us through confusing tasks and terminology. Highly recommended.”
